Die Gesellschaft für Neue Musik Ruhr e.V.
Die Gesellschaft für Neue Musik Ruhr e.V. (GNMR) mit Sitz in Essen wurde 1989 von Komponist*innen und Interpret*innen aus dem Ruhrgebiet gegründet, um das Verständnis für zeitgenössische Musik durch vielfältige Kultur- und Bildungsangebote (Konzerte, Workshops, Vorträge, Seminare, Online-Formate u.a.) im Ruhrgebiet zu fördern. Die GNMR ist ein eingetragener Verein und arbeitet als freie Kulturinstitution sowie als Ansprechpartnerin für Neue und zeitgenössische Musik im Ruhrgebiet. Sie ist Mitglied der Gesellschaft für Neue Musik (GNM), der deutschen Sektion der 1922 mit Sitz in London gegründeten Internationalen Gesellschaft für Neue Musik (IGNM).
Projekte und Veranstaltungen werden durch Spendeneinnahmen des Vereins und Mitgliedsbeiträge, sowie durch kommunale, regionale, Landes- und Bundesmittel sowie Stiftungsgelder finanziert. Der Verein arbeitet in dem Bewusstsein, dass Musik der Gegenwart aus vielen unterschiedlichen Strömungen besteht, die die Grenze zwischen den traditionellen Polen U- und E-Musik auflöst. Die Projekte der GNMR haben zum Ziel, Innovationen zu fördern und zu Gehör und/oder zu Gesicht zu bringen. Offenheit für neue Konzepte und alternative Ideen, für waghalsige Experimente und das Engagement für interdisziplinäre Arbeit sind Denkweisen, welche der Verein nach außen trägt.
The Gesellschaft für Neue Musik Ruhr e.V. (GNMR), based in Essen, was founded in 1989 by composers and performers from the Ruhr region to promote an understanding of contemporary music through a wide range of cultural and educational activities (concerts, workshops, lectures, seminars, online formats, etc.) in the Ruhr region. The GNMR is a registered association and works as an independent cultural institution as well as a point of contact for new and contemporary music in the Ruhr region. It is a member of the Gesellschaft für Neue Musik (GNM), the German section of the International Society for New Music (IGNM), which was founded in London in 1922.
Projects and events are financed by donations from the association and membership fees, as well as by municipal, regional, state and federal funds and foundation grants. The association works in the awareness that contemporary music consists of many different currents that dissolve the boundary between the traditional poles of light and serious music. The GNMR's projects aim to promote innovation and make it heard and/or seen. Openness to new concepts and alternative ideas, daring experiments and a commitment to interdisciplinary work are ways of thinking that the association conveys to the outside world.
